Dirk co-wrote and edited the documentary, THE PARCHMENT MAKERS: AN ANCIENT ART IN PRESENT DAY ETHIOPIA (1999), for Michigan State University, Hope College, and The Scriptorium Center for Biblical Antiquities. The documentary received accolades in the academic community, including Harvard University and the Smithsonian Institution.

Other writing highlights include "SO SEND I YOU" (a documentary on overseas missions in Kenya which Dirk also directed), and "ANCHORED BY THE PAST, CHARTED FOR THE FUTURE" (a historical documentary on Beulah Beach also directed by Dirk).
